School.
To Dahlia, it was a hindrance in her life, it took up most of the day and tired her out, leaving little energy to work on her music. She despised the sound of everyone talking at once, it made her feel clustered and trapped, it was noise. The only thing that gave her the motivation to even set foot in the compound was her friends.
But unfortunately, on that dreaded Monday morning after their movie trip, after Kristian, they contributed to the noise.
Dahlia had expected this, she already had nightmares of the teasing smirks and taunting remarks from Dillion and the knowing smile on Emily. She was sure to she'd be ready to face the embarrassment, but one can never be too sure.
"Dahlia and Kristian sitting in a tree......K-I-S-S-I-N-G," Dillion sang as the three of them walk into class, Dahlia groaning in frustration and Emily chuckling.
"Shut up Dillion," Dalia growled out and Dillion only started singing louder. She glared at him before a small smirk made way to her face, she slowly walked forward. putting out her foot, tripping Dillion as he followed suit. The whole class grew silent as the boy fell.
Seconds later, it was filled with laughter.
At lunch, the teasing continued but this time, instigated by Emily. Dahlia felt nothing short of betrayal listening to her bombard her with questions. She felt a headache approaching.
The three sat at a lunch table, the couple staring at Dahlia expectantly.
"So, where did you and Kristan go?" Emily questioned.
" I told you guys, we just walked around and talked for a bit. Nothing more." Dahlia hissed at her friend and Dillion hummed while shaking his head.
"Man, that's too bad. After our trip, Kristian started texting me, going on and on about how he enjoyed your little date." Dillion sighed and Dahlia perked up a bit.
"He did?" She asked shyly, her hopeful eyes on Dillion.
"Nope." Dillion grinned and Dhalia's face dropped before throwing him a glare and getting up, storming out the cafeteria. Dillion frowned and looked at Emily in confusion, gaining another glare from his girlfriend.
At home, Dahlia decided to drown out her thoughts of Kristian with music. Sitting at her desk, she pulled up a folder of an old piece she was producing and began working. Nevertheless, Kristian still filled her thoughts, so much so that she could not focus on her work.
Dahlia groaned and leaned back in her chair, gazing at the computer.
Kristain, Kristian, Kristain.
Dahlia was starting to get worried, Kristian became the main topic in her head, devouring everything else, new thoughts simply got taken over even linking back to him. Dahlia was done for, she had an idea of what was happening,
She had developed a crush.
Kristian had somehow caused Dahlia to develop a crush on him and it did not sit right with her. She hoped to never see him again and that her crush would soon disappear, then her life would continue as usual. Her train of thought was soon disturbed by the loud buzz of her phone, she took it in her hands and after reading the message, she knew she was not getting away from her problem anytime soon.
Unknown:
hey it's Kristian! :)
This is Dahlia, right? Dillon gave me your number.
Dahlia:
Oh, hey,
yes...This is Dahlia.
Unknown:
Great! I was wondering if you'd like to meet with me this weekend? Saturday?
Dahlia sighed and her eyes.
She already knew she wasn't going to reject, how could she? When she so wanted to see him again. She wanted this ever since she got back from the movies.
Dahlia:
sure.
Saturday came too fast for Dahlia's liking. She needed more time to prepare for what to expect and how she was going to handle talking to Kristian for an extended period. She nervously dug her thumb as she waited at their meeting place. She dressed casually, wearing a simple yellow dress, her hair in fresh box braids and she even had a little makeup on. She knew she did a bit too much.
She felt a tap on her shoulder and quickly turned around, greeting her was the wide smile of Kristian.
"Sorry if I kept you waiting," he apologized and Dahlia shook her head."Nah, it's fine... I wasn't waiting long."
Kristian's smile grew impossibly wider and pulled out his phone."Wanna go find a place to eat?" he asked and his eyes fell to his phone. Dahlia shrugged. "Its kinds early so when we're done we can...maybe walk around like last time?" he continued before pocketing his phone and Dahlia smiled a bit at how shy he sounded as he finished the sentence.
"Okay."
"So...How's your music coming along?" Kristian asked and sipped his drink. They sat in a small cafe, both of them enjoying a hot drink. Kristian's eyes shone as he waited for a reply, Dahlia liked how expressive his eyes were.
"I'm a bit stuck... I don't know, I don't have any ideas on what to create," she replied with a sigh and Kristian nodded slowly in understanding."Do you plan on pursuing music? Like for a career?" Kristian asked once again. Dahlia nodded and he smiled widely, his eyes crinkling.
"I also plan on pursuing music! Well...just singing, I don't know how to make music...but I know how to write lyrics!" He rambled on."I remember you telling me you played the guitar, I'm jealous, I've always wanted to play an instrument."
Dahlia watched as he talked, his eyes once again shining."Well, if you want...I can teach you?" she started, not noticing the way Kristian's smile grew. "I also would like to be a producer or something," she finished shyly. Kristain leaned back in the seat and stretched his arms over his head.
"I would appreciate the lessons, don't worry I'll pay for them." He said before sipping his drink. They sat in silence for a while and Dahlia noticed the way Kristian faced turned serious, he looked deep in thought. His expression suddenly changed to one of excitement and his eyes found Dahlia's.
"I got an idea! How about we do this music thing together?" he asked excitedly."I know we hardly know each other but we can get to...We can be a pair! You make the songs and I sing them."
Dahlia was heart rate sped up, Kristian wanted to work with her, he wanted to pair up with her. Her eyes were wide and dozens of thoughts filled her head. Kristian's eyes bore into her expectantly and she felt like it couldn't be real but it was. Something was bubbled in her chest and she knew what it was...
Excitement.
Her lips curled into a smile and she nodded."Yeah, let's do it."
Kristian broke out in a big smile and held his arm across the table towards Dahlia. "Let's shake on it...partner," He said and Dahlia nodded before taking his hand in hers.
When Dahlia got hope, her heart was still racing as she quickly found her way to her computer, with the newfound motivation, she began working on the music. As she worked her head was filled with Kristian but instead of the thoughts being a distraction, it pushed her.
