I sit there, sighing deeply. “Are they really that fucking dumb? They left me alone. With rope for handcuffs. My god, they are complete fucking idiots.”
I deploy my helmet, making a call to Peter. He answers with worry in his voice.
“Blythe? Blythe! Are you OK?!”
“I’m fine. They’re idiots, it’s OK. They were dumb enough to leave me in a room by myself with only rope tying my hands together - they didn’t even tie my feet. Dylan fucking knows that I have a suit and a sonic scream, so I don’t get why he of all people left me alone. But they did. I’ll get F.R.I.D.A.Y. to send my coordinates to Papa. If I’m being honest with you, I have no idea where I am.”
“Why don’t you break out of there?”
“I want to see how this plays out. I don’t really know their plans, and this could lead to them leaving me alone. Actually, put me on to Papa. I want to talk to him.”
I wait a few moments to be passed over, hearing the rustle of the exchange.
“Blythe? What’s happening? Where are you?” I hear the concern in Papa’s voice.
“That’s not really important here. I’m getting F.R.I.D.A.Y. to send you my coordinates. I’m gonna wait it out and see how it goes down. Also apparently Dylan and Kai are brothers and their dad is some guy called Mr Warner? He says he has beef with you and Dad.”
I hear him sigh, and from the tone of his sigh he’s rubbing his temples. “OK, fine. Don’t worry about that guy. Just don’t do anything dumb. Stay safe. We’ll find you.”
We hang up and my helmet retreats, my gauntlets coming out. My repulsors power up and they burn through the rope, setting me free as the gauntlets disappear. I stand up, rubbing my wrists.
“How the fuck and why the fuck did you get out of that?” I hear, and look up to see Kai.
Shit, I think. An idea crosses my mind and I have to go with it. I’m really gonna fucking do this, aren’t I?
“Well, I changed my mind,” I start, a smile plastered on my face. “On a lot of things, actually. I’m sick of the Avengers and Peter. All on their high and mighty horses. Why don’t I get any glory? I’m just as powerful.”
I’ve been getting closer to him the whole time, taking a step every so often. Kai’s frozen in place, quite confused.
“What do you mean?”
“Why don’t I join you guys? I mean, there would be a reason to join. There’s something else I’ve realised as well. I’ve liked you for a while. I don’t understand why it’s taken me so long to see that.”
My god I’m doing this. This is literally the worst fucking thing I’ve ever done. But it’s necessary.
I stand in front of him and wrap my arms around his neck. Kai seems to sense what’s happening, as he rests his hands on my waist.
“If I go out with you, will you protect me from Dylan?” I pout.
“What about Peter?”
“Oh, he’ll be fine. He’ll find someone else. So...will you?”
“Oh, definitely.”
I smile and kiss Kai. As much as I don’t want to, I use tongue. I need to convince Kai that I’m actually on his side. When we break away, I smile at him and grab his hand.
“So...dating?”
“Yep.”
“Also...do you have a bathroom somewhere? I kinda need to go.”
I don’t need to go, but I need to tell Dad and Papa what’s happening. This is the perfect way to do it.
“Yeah, of course. I’ll take you there. It’s not far away.”
He begins to lead me towards the closest bathroom, and I interlock my fingers with his. It’s working.
