“Jasper, I need you to get up” I started my conversation with Jasper like that.
“They... they won’t get up.” He responded, he sounds really scared and sad.
“Jasper that’s what is happening right now, no one is awake that were asleep. That is my assumption.” I just want him to see the reality of this. “We can’t have you messed up in the head to so please realize everything now.”
“Kris, this entire situation is crazy. How do I just adapt??”
“Trust me Jasper, I know. I had to adapt as well. You think I just wanted to get used to it? I still am not, as far as I know it may have been maybe 3 hours since this started. I’m thinking rationally right now.”
“Kris-”
“Just listen, the meteorite is still in the sky. We have a chance to leave and live. Time is frozen, that’s my theory. My father’s clock was 6am this whole time.”
“It could be dead.”
“No, they were in the air.”
“They...I’m sorry.”
“Come on, get up” I helped Jasper up, he seemed to understand more of this situation. He’s still sad, but he also realized it could be worse.
“We need to go now, I have a bad feeling that staying here for too long is bad. Any long lasting food?” I said, I wanted to hurry away before my bad feeling got worse.
Emma and Jasper were staring at me like all my intelligence left. I soon realized why.
“Oh, yea. Time is supposedly frozen. Right.” I said with the realization on how stupid this sounded.
“Yea….” Emma and Jasper both responded simultaneously, maybe a sibling thing? They looked at each other and laughed. The first laugh since it started, I felt satisfied.
I enjoyed the satisfaction then went to the kitchen. Within the kitchen there were many canned goods, bread and snacks. I just took the snacks. Jasper emptied his dad’s military backpack and let me use it. I was thankful his dad had such a good backpack and so many snacks. I visited his room in the back and viewed him lifeless on his bed. Except for one thing I had noticed, his eyes were open, chest wide, tongue poked out just a bit like he had been talking. He was awake.
“How the...how was he awake?” That was the only thing I could mutter, it was silent. No one heard me, instead of speaking of it I left the matter. I did not want Emma and Jasper to worry about their dad’s safety. So I neglected to mention him, and we all left the house. Emma and Jasper were happy at the moment, I could tell they were sad and confused. They were suddenly out of their home for reasons unknown and in a post apocalyptic world. I for one, was worried out of my mind. The thought that they can’t think straight gave me the feeling I was our lifeline, and the theory of our time stopping was getting more and more out of hand. I need to have a plan first.
“So, what’s the move guys?” I asked their opinions.
“Uhm-” Emma was cut off by Jasper.
“The city, has supplies and lot’s of buildings we could scavenge and be safe.” Jasper gave a decent idea.
“And sleep in the woods” Emma added, she was a real camping girl. Before anyways.
“I like it, let’s go.” I said this sending us on our way, and thinking of the future.
