Percy didn't sleep that night and just lay on his bed. He felt embarrassed that he had actually cried but it was a necessary evil. He dreaded what he had to do next. He had to tell Lance. How much? He wasn't sure. Lance would be back Friday night and he probably wouldn't see him till Sunday. He felt like such a traitor.
He texted Lance asking when he would be back. He continued to replay the nights' event. A half-hour later Lance replied saying he would be back Friday at about 8. Percy coerced Lance to meet him shortly after he returned to play games for a bit. He thought about what he should say. He looked toward his bulletin board that was littered with notes and photos.
There were three particular ones in the middle. They were all photos of the three of them. He hadn't arranged them that way, Macy did. The one on top was of them when they were about six years old. It was their first summer in Kindergarten. They were all smiles and baby fat. They stood ankle-deep in the stream. Macy was in the middle of him and Lance on either side. Macy had a net in her hand with a fish inside. He and Lance were both turned in her direction. In hindsight, you couldn't tell if they were looking at the fish or the smile on Macy's face.
The second one on the right was of them at about 11 years old. This time it was winter break and they had got some snow which didn't happen often. They begged their parents to let them out. They were at the park that was the epicenter for many adventures. They were at the merry go round trying to make it work but it was frozen and stuck fast. Once again she was in the middle. The camera had caught them in mid-laugh as they finally had gotten it to move by inches. Macy had slipped and they had clung to her protectively. Again they both had eyes on her.
The last one in the middle was the most recent. This one was different. Macy and Percy had gotten together that summer and had been official for a few months. They were pumpkin picking for the local contest. Macy has found the biggest one that she could as she always did. Percy and Lance was always the one to figure out how to get it home. Macy was trying to move it to no avail. The had come behind her and took over. Before they moved it Macy had called her mother to take a picture stating that this was the biggest one they had found since they were eight. Macy took her usual spot in the middle sitting on the pumpkin. The difference about this picture was that she had leaned on Lance in a semi embrace. Percy stood on the side with his hand resting on the gate behind them. They were all smiling. Macy smirking like she has made the discovery of the century. Lance proud and supportive. Percy smiling sheepishly for getting mixed up in this. They were all smiling and both of them had their eyes on her ever so slightly.
It was commented once before about how Macy always seemed like the leader and was always the one to get them in trouble. That was the reason why they always had their eyes on her, waiting on the direction or that she caught their attention at the last minute. Percy remembered that it had nothing to do with that, not by a long shot.
Percy turned his head toward the ceiling wincing at the memories that the photo brought up. Finally, Percy began to drift to sleep, the last thoughts were of him burning in hell for what he had done.
