Iola gasped.
She was inside someone else’s mind, seeing what that person was seeing. Could it be Dacia’s?
She calmed down and concentrated harder. Other shapes came into form. No, it wasn’t Dacia’s mind.
She could see Dacia now, standing before her, hands tied behind her back. Iola was inside the mind of one of the guard’s escorting her.
How, she couldn’t tell but she was able to and still had a lot to learn. Perhaps her grandfather could help train her, once she got him back.
“So what has this one done now?” A strangely echoing voice thrummed inside her head.
She realised she could also hear what the guard was hearing. Someone was talking to them, inside a small room.
“Captain, we arrested this outlander. She was brawling in the street.” The second guard’s voice reverberated inside her head.
“Well, she looks a right troublemaker indeed.” The Captain snarled. “Throw her in the dungeon. Three days of stale bread and water will teach her a lesson... if the rats don’t first.”
Laughter echoed inside Iola’s head and everything began to blur and go out of shape.
She tried hard to stay focused but she couldn’t, suddenly feeling very lightheaded and breathless.
Then everything faded away as quickly as it had all formed.
She sighed, sinking back on to the bed. At least the plan was in motion.
Dacia was being taken inside the dungeon and would soon break out with her grandfather at the stroke of midnight.
Her eyes felt heavy and she felt the warm seductive allure of sleep draw her in.
“Open up! Let me in.” The rasping whisper and sharp knock on the door made her sit up with a start.
She looked around, it was quite dark. She must have dozed off. A cold chill descended on her. What time was it? Was it past midnight? How could she have overslept?
“Wh-who is it?” She meekly asked.
“Open up, lass. It is I, Kadar.”
