When the alarm sounded, Liam rolled over, snoozed it and groaned. What has gotten into me? I never want more than a quick fuck. Why can’t I get her out of my head? He sighed. Maybe he’d look at her resume later and see if he could help her get a job, so she’d at least stay nearby.
Once he arrived in his office, his assistant showed up with his coffee, and a stack of files. “What are these for, Laura?”
She stared at him. “Mr. Sullivan, today the growth team and the transactions team are looking for a new developer. These are the files for the candidates we think will be getting the position. You know you always do the second round after the team.”
Of course. It’s that day. Liam laughed it off. “Sorry Laura, the coffee can’t kick in until I’ve had some.” He took a long sip and opened the folders. Transactions looked like they were getting a good pick. Bennet Matthews, coming from a rival nearby company. Hopefully he wasn’t about to pay too much for the privilege. He flipped into the second folder and caught his breath. Melissa Overstreet.
FUCK. How am I supposed to stare at her and seem professional today?
Liam finished his coffee, started his day, and met with Bennet. He seemed ok, but the team was excited to be getting him so Liam let himself be excited too. Have to leave some of the decisions to the team managers. Soon it was time to face Melissa, and he couldn’t do it.
Taking off his jacket, he came to where Melissa was waiting and introduced himself. “Hello, Miss Overstreet. I regret that unfortunately our founder is not available to meet with you today as he usually does with prospective new hires. However, he left the responsibility of the decision to the team, and they have agreed that they want to bring you on board. My name is Liam, and since our founder is not available, I’d like to give you a tour and answer any questions you have about the company.”
When she saw his face, she turned white as a sheet. “Nice to meet you, Liam,” she said weakly.
“Are you all right, Miss Overstreet?”
“I’m fine, thank you.” Melissa swallowed and then stood up to follow him as he toured her around and told her everything she wanted to know, like a true professional.
After the tour, he dropped her off back in the main lobby. “I hope you will accept our offer, Miss Overstreet. You should have the PDF offer letter in your email by now, and we will accept your response in the next 48 hours.” Liam couldn’t help but look at her lustfully. Softly he added, “I really do hope you’ll consider working here.” He shut his mouth, opened the door and let her out.
She walked out the door, paused, and looked back at him, and then proceeded to walk away.
“Damnit!” Liam exploded when he returned to his desk. He buzzed Laura.
“Yes, sir?”
“Can you make sure to let me know the outcome of these two? I seem to never get the memo on who accepts the offers, so I assume the position is filled and then realize it’s not, too late, lately. Can you be sure to tell me this time?” Liam rambled on.
“Sure I can. I thought you just didn’t want to be troubled with it, Mr. Sullivan. I’ll send you a message whenever we know.”
“Thanks, Laura. Can you cancel whatever is left on my schedule? I need to go to the gym early today.”
“Sure, Mr. Sullivan.”
