Skirts ruffled from above but no-one heard them. Two dark figures jumped across the roofs of Mendell, leading to the city square, where shouts of joy emitted. The figures jumped over a roof, threw an anchor into a window of the Watch and swung in. The Watch stood tall over the city square, a tower standing above every building in Mendell. A head suddenly popped out of a window on the top floor another right behind it. The figures watched as the crowd below them subsided their cheering as a man waved his hands and began to speak.
“As you all know Monsieur De Chepen, our honourable mayor, has returned from Fachua City. From whence he signed the Treaty of Solta. This was in the interest of all people from our great city. Because of this we gain much recognition and wealth from the capital.” The cheering re-erupted and from behind the man who was speaking another man came into view.
The man wore a mahogany cloak that covered most of what he wore although his arms were bare. His hair was sandy and his eyes an icy blue.
“Monsieur De Chepen!” The announcer shouted, gesturing his hands to the emerging man and the crowds roared.
One of the figures in The Watch drew an arrow and readied her bow. The one behind placed a gloved hand on the archer’s shoulder and broke the lazy silence that was between them. “Don’t miss.”
The archer scoffed. “Its broad daylight, how could I miss.”
Monsieur De Chepen spread his arms soaking up praise from his lovers, oblivious to the arrow headed right to his heart. The arrow hit home causing him to dramatically fall back. A woman caught him and looked up to The Watch just in time to see the two figures disappear from the top floor. Cheers became screams, both on the balcony and the ground. She looked down at the man, upon tearing his cloak open she found that he wore no shirt and saw a sliver of a yellow liquid mingled with his blood. The poisoned arrow had settled deep in his heart causing him to die instantly.
