Eli silently crept back into the camp, his eyes flicking around in the fading light. A flickering fire left shadows dancing on the forest around him and he had to step carefully as to not make a sound.
By the fire were three medium sized bucks all much larger than Eli, but still small compared to Liam's hulking mass. They sat on logs around the said fire, laughing and joking about random things, their large antlers were pointed up towards the gray colored sky.
Eli moved towards his tent, reaching for the flap as his hoof landed on a twig. The snap was somewhat noisy in the quiet, causing the boys by the fire to shut up and look over in Eli's direction. "Eliott!" One called while standing. They approached him with grins plastered on their faces. "We were so worried where have you been~"
Eli remained silent and stared at the ground, these were the bucks who had ran him out earlier that day "C'mon, Eliott~" The tallest of the three grabbed his jaw and forced him to look at them in the eyes. "Tell us why you were missing~"
There was a moment of silence before Eli whimpered and felt his eyes watering "Y-you... you chased me into the woods... I-"
The tallest cut him off by gripping his jaw even tighter "You think we would do something like that?" He laughed and threw Eli to the ground "If you want to save your ass you'll realize we did nothing wrong... Sleep well, runt."
As soon as they were back to the fire Eli sniffed and entered his tent, tears rolling down his cheeks. He knew he would never stand a chance. He had no future. But there was Liam... Liam wanted him. His tears stopped as Eli slowly pressed fingers to his lips, a warm blush coating his cheeks. "Goodnight Liam..." He whispered into the darkness as he went to bed.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the forest, Liam entered the entrance to the wolf cave systems. Almost immediately someone clapped their hand on his back. A wolf who had challenged him to a fight a few weeks back and lost "Where ya been, Liam... the hunting party came back and had no clue where you had gone..."
Liam shrugged off the wolf's hand and continued walking through the torch lit cave system."I figured I'd search a little longer..." He muttered, not mentioning that he had found the deer they were hunting after all. "Didn't find him though... he was smart..."
The wolf laughed "Sure... you definitely didn't get distracted by the lake again..." He waved and turned down a different passage "I'll see you later, Liam." Once he was gone Liam sighed and continued down the main path to the center of the pack's cave system.
He wasn't going to head to bed immediately simply because he wasn't in the mood to be facing his father and the talk of mates that was always brought up. It was a common subject with his father since he would be the alpha of the pack one day.
Unfortunately, as soon as Liam entered the main den for the pack, two female wolves blocked his path with bright smiles on their faces. "Hi Liam~" He looked away from them and tried to over to the side, but they moved so they were still blocking his path. "We heard your hunt didn't go as well as expected, that's ashame~"
He huffed and reluctantly looked down at them, they were slightly larger than Eli, with wagging tails and wide eyes. Neither of them was as alluring as the tiny deer though. "I am busy, leave me be..."
They sighed and flipped their hair in a way that made him want to vomit. Their attempts at seduction were pathetic "I guess we'll just be sleeping alone tonight then..." The shorter one said with a smile, thinking that would do anything.
"I guess you will..." Liam muttered as he shoved the girls out of his way and proceeded into the den "Don't try again next time, ladies..." He added as he entered the large open space, ready for food. Maybe then he'd face his father and hopefully get some rest.
