He didn't mean to. It was an accident... well... he did it on purpose, but it was almost as if he couldn't help himself.
Liam had started hunting with his fellow packmates, but they had decided to split off and look for the deer in different directions. While his friends ran off to search ahead, Liam had stuck around where they lost him, and as fate would have it he managed to spot his prey.
The small deer was tangled up in vines from a tree and shrubbery, his tiny legs kicking against the rock and root covered ground. Liam couldn't help but stare at his tan and white tail fluttering rapidly in what he could only assume was panic. Despite the easy kill, Liam didn't feel the urge to kill the deer, he simply wanted to touch it.
In an attempt to fulfill his wishes, Liam slowly crept forward towards the deer. His paws fell silently against the ground as he was careful not to alert the small animal or get tangled in the vines himself. His clawed hand reached out and ever so gingerly grasped the deer's waist.
Almost immediately he felt him tense up and suck in a breath to scream, but Liam quickly covered his mouth and held him against his tanned chest. "Shhh..." Liam hushed what should be his prey in a tender voice, trying his hardest not to scare him "The others will come if you scream."
Liam could feel the shaking coming from the small body he was holding, and the breath swift against his hand as he slowly leaned to the side in an attempt to look at his face, pulling the deer's face to the left as he did so.
In a split second their eyes met, causing Liam to freeze and stare and tears rolled down his captive's cheeks and onto his hand. His green eyes were wide in pure terror that made Liam feel almost angry. He had never felt bad about hunting prey animals before... so why now?
"I'm not going to hurt you..." Liam added, watching the deer's eyes flick down to his hand then back to his face, his breathing casually slowing back down. "I promise..." He seemed to relax slightly, his tense body loosening and leaning into Liam more.
Once he was sure the deer wasn't going to scream, he pulled his hand away and moved it down to his chest, not wanting to let go just yet. "P-please..." The deer's voice was higher than any of the wolf males, but also a lot softer and gentler. "... Don't kill me..." His green eyes were still wide in terror as he looked back over his shoulder at Liam.
There was a split second where Liam could see him calm, just a second before he struggled again against Liam's grip on his waist and chest. He wore simple clothing that was quite common amongst prey; A loincloth that reached to his mid-thigh and showed his hips. His hips and shoulders had large spots on them, a sign that he wasn't fully grown yet, that and his antlers were quite small, just sticking out of his fluffy brown hair.
"I'm not going to kill you just stop struggling..." The deer stopped again at Liam's words and hesitated before sighing and relaxing in Liam's arms. "That's better... see? My name is Liam..."
"Eli..."
