The sound of growing traffic left an uneasy feeling in Milo’s head. This feeling made him think that time slips by without anyone knowing. With a deep sigh and breakfast in hand, he turned the corner of the shop and headed down the waking market alley. Shop owners one by one started to open up their shops ready to begin the new day.
Walking along, Milo thought to himself, ‘These people wake up everyday doing the same thing. I don’t know how they do it. Wouldn’t it get dull?’
Suddenly, the bag on his back started to slip off his shoulders. He could hear the sound of pencils rolling around in the front pocket. Stopping for but a moment, he shrugged his shoulders to let the strap fall back near his neck. Feeling satisfied, Milo continued his walk down to the alley.
Passing the last shop in the market alley, a large park was coming into eyesight. Even though he got up early in the morning to enjoy it, there were already people in the park doing things such as playing guitar to an artist drawing a tree.
A small smile crept up on his face. Milo knew that this is where he belonged. This park was a haven of mysterious beauty. Once a person enters, it’s as if they enter a whole other world. The gentle rustle of the trees blowing in the wind entices the person to wander further in as if it was beckoning to you. Sound from the outside could not be heard as the only thing that could be heard is the flow of the fountain in the middle of the park. An aroma of a sweet scent permeated off the flowers in the trees. It was as if you were being put into a trance.
Taking a deep breath, Milo looked around to see if there were any free spots where he could sit. Within an instant, he saw a lone tree with a patch of sunlight breaking through. The breeze brushed his hair as if to say that that’s where he belonged this morning.
Stepping on the grass, the faint crunching of the grass leaves entered his ears. The ground was soft yet firm. Another step forward, Milo began his trek towards the lone tree. Although there were other people here, no one paid any attention to the newcomer. They were all busy doing what they wanted.
Arriving at the tree, he could feel the breeze as it rustles the leaves above him. This other world seemed as if it was alive. Milo dropped his backpack on the ground and sat at the base of the tree.
“I feel like I could stay in this moment forever.” Milo said to himself as he stared up at the tree.
Without even looking, he grabbed a donut from the paper bag and took a bite. The sweet yet bitter taste of dark chocolate filled his mouth. After swallowing, he looked to see what the other people were doing at them moment. Some people were just relaxing as he was, and others were trying to take in the beauty through their own form of art.
After finishing off the donut, Milo leaned his head back on the trunk and closed his eyes. The sounds were the same as he entered the park, yet his image of this place was different. Milo imagined this place as a forest in the spring of another world. A place untouched by man yet sought by all. This forest held all the beauty of nature and all the wonders of the world. To him, this was the only way he could ever see this park.
Opening his eyes, his sight laid upon a woman crouching in front instead of the park that he expected to see. She was staring into his eyes as if she was studying him.
“Can I help you?” Milo said as he leaned forward resting his arm on his legs.
The woman smiled and rose to her feet. She rested her hands behind her back and gave Milo the softest chuckle he has ever heard. As she stood there, a gentle breeze blew her hair to the side letting Milo see more of her face.
It was the first time he has ever frozen. When he looked in her direction, he could no longer see the park that they were in. Just by looking at her, the park faded and became the forest he has always imagined this place as. This woman’s smile was like a flower, and her hair was like the gentle breeze that made the forest feel more alive.
As the breeze died, she nodded her head as if to say goodbye. Milo still stuck in his trance could only manage to keep his eyes on her. Every step she made felt like a heartbeat, as if she was the very soul of the place.
After a while, the woman exited out of sight. Shaking his head, he broke himself out of his trance. He leaned forward to see if she was still walking but could not see any sign of her.
Getting up from the tree, Milo looked back in the direction she walked. “Who was that?"
