I'd like to picture the women's conversation as this:
Lady in hat: And I hear that they don't even blink...!
Lady with short hair: Oh, heavens!
Hat: And--oh, don't look now, but a very attractive man has--no, look--no, don't look--I mean, act like you're not looking . . .
(My thought processes are a little silly.)

I feel like this guy would be the guy you don't necessarily like, but he's helpful and got bad but not the worst ulterior motives, and he picks on people with short tempers by being all fancy and stuff
