“Damnit!” A man yelled from the receiving end. His voice muffled by the masked facial gear he wore. He seemed panicky as he ran down a now vacant hall.
“Where is everybody?!” the man asked.
“I always pictured Scathatchen prisons to be dead, but this isn’t exactly what I imagined. Not only that but it’s huge, Kanen could be anywhere in here!” he added.
“I know the sinners didn’t get to all of them but this is crazy, now how the hell am I supposed to find Kanen or Aliikai when my radars dead?” he went on, as he ran turning sharp corners.
“I swear they don’t pay me enough for this” he said stopping when he stumbled upon a lying body.
He froze at what his eyes wandered to, gulping nervously but also moving on from the shocker almost instantly. Floating from the corpse was indeed a basic seunna spirit, pure as can be. The Velatant checked his surroundings in case he wasn’t under watch. Then he moved in personally to begin inspection..
“Ah, nah man no way” he said, blinding himself with his arm as to leave out the vile sight.
“Oh my god, and he’s a Velatant too?” he added with his rays of vision peeking underneath his arm, to block out the rest.
“I don’t see any sinner scars, marks, or bites. Which has gotta mean he was killed by one of the Imps, but even that doesn’t add up. They couldn’t take down one of us so easily, and he had to have been of a certifiable rank to even undergo a liberation mission” he said considering the possibilities.
“Which means…” the Velatant searched his fallen ally. He discovered a bullet lodged into his skull but was even more disturbed at the engraving.
“This bullet shouldn't' have killed him, it’s the one’s we use for interrogation purposes. Plus, the seunna should’ve had his body up and goin within a matter of minutes. Somethin ain’t right here” the Velatant stood up from his crouched position.
“Rest in peace, hermano (brother)” said the Velatant while frowning. He let out a sigh, knowing he was pressed for time.
He stuck his hand through the spirit in front and absorbed its energy. The ghostly wisps lighting the color of veins, and shimmering his eyes as they normally would when fusing with the bloodstream. A cloud of smoke blew by as the energy brushed against it. “Now it’s time for some answers” he spoke, snapping his fingers to start a spark. Using his left hand to take out the defective tracking device that failed on him previously, and his right to conjure a spiritual conductor from raw seunna, he combined the two to recharge the battery life resulting in activation of the tracker back to full use. It’s holographic touch screen appeared picking up signals shown during its hibernation state. The grid was stable, not lagging in communications which relieved the Velatant as he began dialing in coded number beneath the screen.
“C’mon somebody pick up!” he said uncertain of what would befall him.
His fingers went to work, typing faster than his eyes did.
“Can’t disturb Mother Delphina when she’s lying in wait for Kanen, let’s see if Joanne picks up” he said, pressing down hard on the enter key.
“Shit, she better” said the Velatant in an aggravated tone waiting for the dial.
“Hello? This is JoJo with the mojo speaking, unless it’s an emergency please leave a message at the beep. I’m obviously busy if you couldn’t tell already, so do me a favor and give me a reason not to test my patience and do as I say, please and thank you” the voicemail spoke.
“My god this woman” he reached the extra mile and contacted the emergency number.
……..
……..
………
The dialing tone repeated.
“This better be an emergency!” Joanne’s voice uttered from in the speaker
“Jo! This is Angel! Listen it’s urgent, Kanen’s pulse is blinking on the radar, what does that mean!? Is he in any kind of danger!?” asked the Velatant
Joanne let out a stressful sigh before answering him.
“ Yes! Now hurry up! It could mean a variety of things, slipping out of consciousness could be one of them . Why are you worried about that Juarez!? Just do as you’re told and follow it, or it could make matters worse” Joanne replied.
“I am, I’m coming up on the Rationem chamber as I say this” he said, aiming his camera sight from the multi media tracking device to take a picture of the bullet he found, and it’s fallen target.
“Was that a camera snap I just heard!?” Joanne asked.
“Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, look trust me, I’ll explain that later. I just needed to know what was going on so I could know how to react with it. Let Mother Delphina know I’ve got it all under control, I should be delivering Kanen s-” Velatant Angel Juarez stopped mid sentence
“Yeah, whatever. I know you will. Just get him back on time, boy” Joanne replied.
Angel’s dark brown eyes enlarged themselves to his surprise.
“Angel!? What are you waiting for!? Hang up and find Kanen, I don’t want my ass chewed out by Dell because of your screw up. I’m too old for that” Joanne said, with an irritated tone.
“Aye!? I’m talking to you boy!?” she said.
………
………
………. But still no reply.
“J-Joanne!?” Angel asked.
“What does it mean when the pulse doesn’t show up at all!?” he asked.
“I-It what!?” Joanne said , her voice cracking slightly.
“Nothing’s showing at all, it disappeared just like that”
“You better not be playing with me” she said.
“Why would I joke around at a time like this!?” he questioned her.
“Aliikai’s is still there but it’s blinking now. Who knows when that’ll fade too” he added.
“They’re both in the Rationem chamber, alert mother Delphina we need to issue more unit’s down here” he told her
“Awh hell” Joanne responded.
“I’m trusting you, it’s better we claim that as ours anyway. I’ll get in touch with Dell, you do what you can on your end. Don’t call again! Focus all your efforts on finding Kanen, I’ll meet up with you shortly” she added.
“Y-Yes ma’am! You can count on me” Angel said valiantly.
“Uh-huh, Guernedyn signing out” Joanne concluded the call.
Angel swiped downwards on the pad, saving the picture he took beforehand. He took one last glance at the body.
I’ll make sure it wasn’t for nothing my friend, you can count on that” he said before rushing back into the hall ahead, sprinting faster than he had before.
ACRIMONY SET THE STAGE. CURTAINS WERE LIFTED.
Cameras were attached on every inch intersecting the main attraction. Clamors of curses spat vehement words, allegorical spite to the human ear. Imperium guards stood as stiff as statues, blocking each and every exit. A coliseum setting had shown itself, but replacing the seats were hole’s large enough to fit any size of human within. Those holes had space taken up by native individuals, some sinners others of normal kind being put on display like caged wildlife. The bars keeping them contained dampened their roars. From a high point above was monarch Kensei Omnium, standing behind glass as he watched the scene , reigning superior to all lower than where he stayed. A spotlight shone down on the central piece of the stage. Doors leading from the entrance slowly crept open as two guards walked side by side holding chains attached to the native boy, one steel collar around the neck and other circular chains tightened around the ankles. He hobbled as they took steps forward, still quite unresponsive as his eyes were shut.
Kensei took a gander at his phone he held up in his right hand.
“Time is steadily ticking away, and still no sign of our Velatum guests. Is no one else excited for this party except me? How disappointing” he spoke.
A microphone long enough to reach his mouth, sat in front. He switched it off for the time being.
“Rationem is as lively as it has ever been tonight. If anything, our lead defier should be proud. He’s done a great job keeping me entertained, I’ll say” monarch Omnium said smiling
Movement behind walked up from stairs, narrowing through a small doorway.
“Monarch Omnium” a man spoke.
“We have just received word from men stationed in sector 5A. Signals of Velatant activity have been confirmed to be nearing rationem as I speak. It appears they are conducting a strategy to breach our chamber and excavate the children. How should we respond to this?” he asked.
“Let them come” Omnium answered
“We are two sides of the same coin after all, what fun would it be if they don’t participate as well?” he added.
“I am sorry to question your authority but wouldn’t you consider that to be quite the risk sir?” he asked
“Oh, believe me. Once our event tonight comes to a close, Delphina will wish she hadn’t bothered with liberation. I seek not to take away but to ingrain” Omnium answered once more.
“It will be marvelous!” he said.
“The new age versus the old age. Tests of time at each other’s throats to decide who is the rightful owner of our beloved Xenysis. That, just the though ignites the flame in my oh so cold heart” he went on.
“You will soon see” he said placing his arms behind his back.
“Has Aliikai recovered consciousness yet?” he asked.
“Um, yes she should be right about now. Shall we bring her in?” he asked
“Have her set upon the spectator platform, I demand you to give her a view of high quality, almost parring with mine” he ordered.
“She is a valuable asset in this chest game after all, so I advise you to treat her like one” said monarch Omnium, brushing dust off his red velvet suit.
“Yes sir! You have my word” he said bowing and taking his exit out of the room.
“It is soon time. I’d like to see them try and excel with their star player acting as his own greatest enemy, torture is overrated anyway. If we truly are the new age, words alone won’t be able to simply express that” he said crossing his hands behind his suit again, watching the guards place Aliikai below.
Two Imperium guards handled her simultaneously, as she tried fighting back. Her wasted stamina let up once they manhandled her using pressurizing strain if needed. They grabbed her arms, putting chaining them together to prevent any sudden movements. From there, they clipped a lock onto the steel bar sliding the key back into a pouch apart of their apparel. A blindfold was seen strapped across her head like a band, when the setup was properly initiated they stood aside her. One pulled off the blindfold that had Aliikai sightless, with her vision freshly renewed she examined every set piece in the vastness that was Rationem. Native’s longing for escape, what wings of freedom were once caste upon them were now cut as if they had undergone some punishment for simply existing. Now substituting their temporarily burden-less shoulders were drawn out tubes taking up even more of their body than they were used to. Thousands of descendants from the native race were scattered out all throughout the pitiless chamber, grouping some together in a single spacing clustered like trash in corners. To state it as immortality would be an understatement, to worsen it all was indifference that reflected from the captors. Still as can be, contending with the scenario as a daily happening as miniature in scale as a morning newscast. Sweat rolled down her smooth skin.
“N-No, b-but we had put in so much t-” she couldn’t find the strength to speak anymore. Her eyes averted to the center, and there she spotted him.
“K-Kanen! KANEN!” she yelled, trying to grab his attention but was hushed by a guard who poked her with a sharp end from his weapon.
“Ack!” she said, closing her eyes.
She watched as he awakened, squinting his eyes to the bright lights.
Kanen’s heart beat increased dangerously, once lifting his head up to notice what place he took in the grandness of a plot he was oblivious to. He could not bare the mere sight of it all, feeling cheated out of his past and meeting the tribulations of his misguided attainment. The cries were all too familiar, giving him flashes of a agony stemming from the roots of his childhood. His knees felt the tiling that they bent on, had he been senseless it be all for the better he thought. He stayed immobile praying for a death rather than bearing the role of eyewitness to his mistake. His miserable state itched when he could hear words produced into distortion by a microphone that echoed waves indoors.
“Kanen, Kanen Vann Hanassan my boy” the voice said.
“You are probably quite confused I’d assume yes? Or can you not understand my words? It is not some ancient dialect but you would get the picture otherwise, because I will act out my words you see” monarch Omnium spoke.
“D-D-Do not insult me, heathen!” Kanen mumbled under his breath tempered at his mockery.
An Imperium guard struck his foot onto Kanen’s back, bending his spine
“Who gave you permission to speak worm!?” he said, heightening his tone
“It is alright let him speak as he pleases. I am curious to see how one of his nature will react in this circumstance” Omnium said.
“You have disobeyed me Kanen, had you stayed captive for just a little while, I’d appoint you a seat at the top of the world” he went on.
“You’ve chosen your side and now that sin will trace right back to it’s original source. Remember I would have never even dreamed of becoming so high without the assistance of a race I could have sworn time had forgotten, but here I am today paying back what I owe one hundredfold” he added.
This child, is what you may call an act of Natural selection, put it in any context as you will, in our ever growing Xenysis only that of which skillfully adapts to it’s very own society, wherever that may be, is rewarded with a chance to reach newer heights for not only their individuality but for those who share an identical origin point. My words may seem foreign to your adolescent mind, but in that perspective we view one another the same wouldn’t you agree?” he said smiling.
Kanen remained silent, his hair hiding his expression as he bent down.
“Tell you what, sense I am feeling generous today I will give you one final option. I am sure it will be easy for you” he told Kanen.
“I will spare every last breathing native in my visible vicinity which might I remind you has no bounds. At-
Kanen listened carefully.
“At the cost of little Aliikai’s life here” he said. “
Kanen gasped.
“Surely this is a no brainier I would hope, or have you caught a few accidental sentiments on your little adventure? Ah, nonsense how could a few hours amount to more than a decade's worth of undying endearment towards your own kind, simply incomparable, yes?” said Omnium.
