“Hold it in, just a little longer” Kanen whispered to Aliikai below
Yet, hold it in she could not, out spat blobs of liquid mixed with unpleasant brown and yellow colors form the young girl’s mouth. The force bent her head forwards, immediately grabbing the attention of both Imperium guards on her right and the sinner to the left of her. An odd familiarity stroke her when she regrettably stared into the face of unsightly ruin, the sinner spoke
“All-Allii-k-kai!?” it said with it’s echoed seunna distorting its voice.
“Huh!?” said Aliikai.
“The velatant child, there she is!” A guard yelled from the opposite side
“End of the line this time, we’re taking you back where you belong. I’m growing sick of this wild goose chase!” another shouted as the two, followed by a group ran towards her position.
Kanen pulled Aliikai back, holding her with both arms.
“Had I known you were sick, I would have been much more careful” Kanen said to her.
“Now we are pinned down” Kanen told her.
“I am sorry Kanen, I did not mean to cause trouble for the both of us I just have a terrible stomach virus that-”
“You can inform me later, now we have to flee, but just how will we go about that is the real question” said Kanen cutting her short, trying desperately to conceal his fear.
“I’m hearing two voices! It’ll be like knocking two birds out with one stone” an Imperium male guard said reaching their position, running footsteps clattered against the ground in rhythm with the pairs anxious heart beatings.
“Might I suggest something?” Aliikai whispered her voice quite hoarse.
“That sinner protected me in the past, it will not hurt us as long as I am here” Aliikai informed.
“How could that be? Sinner’s do not have minds of their own” Kanen questioned, but before he could speak another word he felt a light wind breeze by his shoulders.
Heavy stomping cracked the ground with massive weight. The sinner charged itself at full throttle aiming at the Imperium crowd. To their dread, they unloaded their firearms onto the creature, emitting shock waves and pistols firing at mach speeds. Some weakened the creature but most were soaked up like water to a sponge.
“Forget the damn beast, and go after the children!” The frontman said deftly charging forward and quickly to his side to maneuver around his opposer.
They continued firing at rapid pace, grazing the sinner to some extent.
“That’s suicide !” Another yelled,
“Split into a squadron, we’ll keep it busy” one from the back followed up.
In mild irritation, the sinner lashed his extended chains of cold steel out revolting fashion. Dark shades of seunna, mending back it’s small wounds, hissing as his disoriented hybrid face belched forth a scorching fire from its bony mouthpiece. Screams of anguish from the spirit’s within the dark ember, intimidated the loyal guardsmen greatly. Paranormal ghoulish figures coated in the usual white glowed in quality this time around, their eye absent with life, their apparitions submerged themselves in human skin when making contact with each guardsman.
“AHH! Where did these sinners come fro-” one spoke before being burned to ashes.
“A-After them! If you’re to die make it not in vain and for the Imperialistic dream!” One shouted before putting forth a bold yet poor attempt to charge with his weapon blazing at the same time while seeking to reach the pair by bypassing his sinner foe. He too fell victim to the harsh snapping grip of the chains, blood tainted the walls disabling his arms and later legs.
The assault carried on as the sinner let loose it’s might, swallowing whole the shaded seunna spirits that arose from it’s leftovers.
Kanen urged Aliikai to turn away, fearing the negativity that she’d be exposed to a tremendous amount of violence as he has in his youth. His grip remained consistently closed on her hand, covering her eyes and faced her where the decimation was not visible.
“Now is our chance” he told her, still quieting his tone
She nodded, as he crept around the vacant recess in the wall they stood in with light footsteps, they tread carefully. They held in their breaths once more to increase their likelihood of escape, once enough distance was spread between the pair and their worries, they launched off with a run guided by Kanen.
“K-K-Kanen, w-wait!” Aliikai said, slowing down trying to catch her breath.
Kanen’s run skid to a cease “What?”
“What is it ?” he asked.
“Rationem is close. Somehow *pant* Somehow, we have both made it this far” she said wheezing in her panting.
“I come from foreign land, and you a slave, some pair we are, yes?” she said cutting her words short due to exhaustion.
“Of course! What sense would it make to stop now!? Aliikai we are so close, I-I am so close” he responded, looking at her in pity.
“What are you trying to say?” he asked.
“Your people are bunched together with my father, please, please save him as well, do not forget” Aliikai bent onto her knees suiting for a plea.
“Go on without me, I only serve to slow you down” she asked. “I have done nothing in my life but hold others back, with something so important I do not wish to hinder you, not this time”
“Aliikai” he said bending down to comfort her low self esteem, he looked into her eyes.
“I do not know much about you, not yet at least, but what I do know from the little time that we have shared together is that you are different from these people. Kind in ways so caring I do not have the words to express what I want to say. You embraced me with open eyes looking past the freak that I have become in these cursed chambers” he told her.
“I knew what I was getting myself into the moment I chose to save you. I am prepared for this, and I will not leave you behind. I have watched helplessly all my life for things I have no control over. With my hand over yours” he added, placing his veiny hand onto of her small palm.
“I have control this time. I will direct us over hurdles unseen, just believe in me is all I ask” he said, folding his hands in a praying formation over hers.
Aliikai looked back at him feeling the connection spark like a hidden epiphany lighting her thoughts. She faced him with hers smiling and then chuckled.
“So we are vowing as if we are married!? But we are not even of proper age yet?!” Aliikai responded.
“Uhh…..huh!?” said Kanen.
“I do not know what possessed you to look after such a fatty as I, may it be you were hungry and mistook me for daifuku cake?!” she responded
Kanen’s expression may it be confused, shook his head smiling.
“But yes I do believe you Kaney” she said kissing his forehead. The young native blushed but hid by facing tilting his head to try and subside the warming sensation.
“Good, that is all the assurance I need” he told her, standing up straight then helping her stand shortly after.
“Now we head for rationem” Kanen said, holding her hand narrowing his sight down the long hallway.
“Yes, it lies just beyond this hallway. I hear, the gate stays closed by a special seunna!? Yes that it what was said to me” Aliikai said, holding Kanen’s hand
“Would make sense, we are the only ones with pure seunna so we should be able to cancel it out, if it is impure as I am assuming it would be from your words” Kanen replied.
“Yes, I thought I could do it alone, but now that you're here-
“Our chances are greater, that they are” Kanen finished her sentence. As the two ventured further with goal in mind, they held one another close. They snuck around every surface utilizing the environment to their advantage. From the shape above, the flooring seemed to widen that would essentially allow detection from prying eyes enabling a facile capture from surrounding adversary's. Following the insights that Aliikai gave him, Kanen could sense a massive wave of endangerment from ahead. The Rationem chamber lied nearby, the young native’s eyes flashed like before, seunna sensed it’s kin longing for freedom. Their progress reached a sharp dead end when they became aware of an Imperium squadron blocking their goal. Kanen took a step back with Aliikai behind him, warning her of what he saw. He retraced his steps to a crevasse farther away, in which Aliikai followed. His mind going blank, picking his brain for a strategically planned movement that would outsmart his enemies.
“Give me time, I will think of something” Kanen whispered to Aliikai
“I know, I trust you” she replied.
“Thank you Aliikai” said Kanen. A muffled voice pitched in from the center of his Scathon.
Gasping, Kanen withdrew his Scathon as to percieve the message clearly. He covered half the speaker with his thumb as to not alert others.
“Reiji?!” said Kanen
……………….. Not a work spoke in response.
Aliikai looked up at Kanen’s muddled face, who then leaned closer towards the speaker for coherence.
“Reiji!?” Kanen asked again, his voice dying out slightly.
“Is that you? Please say something, I am in need of your help” Kanen said.
………
……..
“If you can here me, I am nearing the Rationem chamber. I am sorry to disobey your orders, but I cannot escape this feeling any longer” Kanen commented.
“So I-”
So you would leave behind a better opportunity for your so called “distraught” future for the sake of a meaningless ethnic race forgotten by history.
A mellifluous raspy voice sailed out the speakers chillingly. Aliikai began to shake, tremble at each word.
Kanen’s eyes widened to their extent, the same sentence periodically spoke out from the open hallway concurrently. His pupil shifted right uneasily, his heart sank to an all time low.
“I-I know that voice” Kanen voice said stuttering.
“Congratulations, you have made it this far without authorized supervision and you have even made a friend along the way who shares similar compassion, now how sweet is that? The cursed defiers finally cross paths, as fate allowed itself to be. Dear Kanen, you proudly depict yourself as a savior for these people you call family but know so little to put your very life on the line to come to their aid. How long will you let your ideals become tangled into the affairs of outsiders? Do you not wish to think and act upon your own will for a change?”
An unsettling chuckle split the voice’s subject.
“I am forsaking my respect for the sake of my world. As uninvited guests gather for to initiate recruitment, my mind will be at rest when yours stops functioning. Before we depart ways, you for life, I believe a farewell gift is in order. Aliikai, you seek to meet with your father once more correct? Every child needs their father for support wouldn’t you agree?
Aliikai gasped, looking up at Kanen with a disturbed expression. The native stood frozen, trapped in mental displacement.
“A-A-Alii-kai?!? Alii….kai!” hissing off wailing spirits resonated to distort a voice emitting eerily from behind. It’s bones cracking with the smallest movements, Imperium guards from ahead caught notice enabling laser sights that sheared away from their supposed target.
“It’s back, from before!?” Aliikai whispered.
“What do we now Kanen?!” she asked.
Kanen clutched his Scathon
“You are surrounded, turn yourselves in and we just might spare your lives” the guards spoke from afar.
“All that we can do” he responded, trembling as his sorrowful bent his head down.
“I am not afraid of you Kensei” Kanen said, defending his fractured ego, balling his left fist.
OLDER KANEN: The light of hope was fading with winds that threatened its intensity. Yet I remember yielding being a sign of failure, I’d dare not capitulate to even if it stood as my last option. I pieced together all knowledge gained on my way up to this point and tested it, taking a risk as my last resort. My confidence became my engine, and for her a shield.
“It will not hurt you Aliikai, it is vulnerable to you somehow and we must use that to our advantage” Kanen advised.
The voice from the speaker continued on
“You all have been a stain in my cleansing future for far too long. Take which ever action you see fit, though it will be futile I need a memory to look back upon when recording the steps to my dystopia, outlined in your adolescent blood”
Kanen disabled his speaker
“I will take a step in front of the sinner, it wants me remember? Not you. Then you will bravely step in front , and I will strike it. If the Imperium guards fire at you, I will shield you until our sinner unleashes rage back upon them” Kanen said.
“Me? Step in front? But what if it?-” Aliikai was interrupted.
“You trust me, right?”
“But, I-” Aliikai was at a lost for words.
“It’s time” Kanen spoke before, walking courageously down the narrow corridor.
“Defy expectations” Kanen thoughtfully reminded himself before leaping into the heat of both sides. He withdrew his scathon readying an attack.
“Now Aliikai!” he commanded
Hesitatingly she stood, eyeing the scene fearfully as the sinner charged for Kanen. She closed her eyes, clenched both fists and proceeded to rush out. Her stubby legs seeming to break her jog but she would not let them. Her concentrated mindset was at the forefront of her motive. She could feel her stomach churning as the distress weighed in. She slid in between the two while gazing into a world of terror. She stood shaking, as her fear exposed itself inconsistently with her resolute stature . As expected the sinner’s charge came to a screeching halt “A-A-Alii-kai” it said, skidding against the grounded flooring. It leaned forward with ailing breath causing goosebumps to surface on Aliikai as she stood with her fearless facade. Using the opening Aliikai created with her innocence, he lifted his right arm, with Scathon gripped in his palm, he switched in front and swung his scathon in a slashing motion triggering the polearm to once again extend and graze the eyes of his enemy.
“Hah!” Kanen yelled to intimidate, after attacking ferociously a second time, before upsetting the creature in a fit of rage. Aliikai stood back before her native protector took a critical blow with a forced palm looking as if it would knock the spirit out of it’s target. After becoming susceptible to the attack, he spat forth gore soon after feeling seunna begin to treat his internal suffering. Just as physical relief ran its effect, a needling shot pierce through the natives bare skin one fired after the other in succession painting him in red.
“Kanen!” Aliikai yelled instantly launching herself in front of him.
“I won’t let you hurt him!” she stood arms open wide, shielding him setting herself imperil for his sake.
“Don’t be foolish girl! We are not afraid to fatally wound you our orders are set in stone!” An Imperium guard warned, as they set their gun sights to her ruffled body.
“You even so much as lay a finger on her and I’ll, I’ll-” Kanen pressed his stomach wound with his arm, as his gravelly voice threatened, blood dripping from the his leaky mouth. The creature, before rebutting completely at his attacker moved upwards hastening himself to get by the pair.
Kanen limped further to replace her with himself but she did not budge, as a second shot fired without a second thought.
