CHAPTER I. THE OBLIVION ACT 3.2 THOSE WHO PARALLEL COMPASSION
Kanen tugged effortlessly onto the chains restraining him, his breath running rampid from the countless breaths of agony he took. His flashback pitched in gray scale the more he tried making sense out of his infliction.
“We did nothing, nothing at all” Kanen said, sorrowfully looking down.
“There’s got to be some reason, and I’ll figure it out even if it kills me” he said following up. “It isn’t going to end like this” his fist clenched again, shaking the chains as they rattled with the beat of his heart. He glared at the door across from him unaware of the passing time.
“What’s an operation anyway if my people aren’t allowed to live through the days without being chained down, afraid to be in their own skin?” he asked, straining his voice . “If I’m going stand alone for this change, then fine” he added, shaking the chains further to set himself free.
“I refuse to let my youth pin me down, it is now or never” closing his eyes once more. “Defying expectations, oh trust me you will not see this one coming” he concluded. His words came to a hush, once hearing footsteps approach him. Recklessly without a moment to spare, collecting the fragments of his mind towards his cause, with one final tug, it broke. The chains snapped off their lock from his constant pulls weakening its grip. Metal pieces flew, clanging to the ground after dropping.
“Oh please Reiji,it’s like you wanted me to break out before you got back” Kanen said to himself uttering to himself , lifting his head upwards as he stood up. The faint voice, was heard aloud moving towards the door, closing in on Kanen’s location.
“Finally your back” Kanen said, taking a few steps in the direction of the door, realizing his foot was still locked in between a round chain. He fought against it, attempting to free himself once more.
Creeping closer the voice spoke “I should be out assisting with the search, but they’ve got me up in here tending after this freak of all nature. It’s a damn shame at that too, how dare they look down on me after all these years” the voice said, arriving at the door. A male Imperium guard approached without headgear, his skin pale with hair brown at medium length, a man belonging to his early thirties. After glancing through the solid barred window of the chamber, he gasped spotting Kanen in an instant.
Once loosening the chain, Kanen looked upwards and returned the reflective glance, surprised while gasping at the simultaneously with the unprepared guard. The guard before dashed towards the doors lock, accelerating his pace at unlocking it.
“Oh no you don’t!” he said twisting the holographic key.
Kanen broke free of his last strains, jetting towards the door as he unsheathed the Scathon like Reiji had shown him. Mid motion, the door’s lock was no more clicking around at the area at near flawless timing.
“I’ll be damned to be the one guilty of letting this monstrosity escape!” he said furthering his attempts to open the door.
The guard stuck his hand through as he reached but was halted. Followed by a kinetic pushing impact, Kanen dashed with the weight of his body slamming the door ridge with his hands onto the guards arms heavily.
“Ack! God damn you kid!” He yelled, holding his arm down in pain. He lifted his head up to face the bars, as to focus his stern vision from succumbing to his throbbing numbness.
“Just you wait till I get my hands on you!” he said, trying to pass it off.
Twirling the scathon weapon with a flick of his wrist, Kanen quickly phased into his what would seem a choreographed action eliminating his distance with great elevation taking a high leap into the air while violently thrusting the weapons edge into the guards open pupil, pulling back and repeating the attack with a swinging motion as the opposite edge extended itself like a polearm into his opposite one.
“AHH! Damnit to hell! I’m gonna ring your fucking neck with my bare hands until you choke on your own god damn blood, you insignificant creature!” the man spat out vehemently. His eyes bled profusely , infuriating himself as the squishing noise of his eyeball thickened his pained sensation realizing the imminent blindness set itself in.
“There! How do you like your new eyes!? If you ask me I think it suits you perfectly. Don’t worry you’ll get used to seeing in the dark, just like my people have!” Kanen responded.
“I’m going to fucking kill you and hang you out to dry!” the man spat forth more blobs of cruel threats.
“I do not fear you, there was a time when I did and could not understand you but now I have grown above that and now realize how meaningless you really are” Kanen responded, his accented dialect running fluent as he spoke.
“I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!” the man said squirming his arms upwards like an overturned insect.
Once he wiped the blood off his scathon, Kanen looked behind himself, directing his attention on the embedded emblem to Domus. It didn’t take much utilization of common sense for him to depict that shortly following Imperium guards would cross his path. With it his cooling equanimity set in stone, he sped towards it, looking down in reassurance.
“Domus lies underneath, this is it. I have waited my whole life for this” Kanen said taking a deep breath and then exhaling.
“Let’s see the sparks fly then” he said, disregarding the shouting guard from behind, lifting his trusty weapon into the air and jamming it downwards into the emblems center. Doing so, the physical immersed itself, phasing through it’s solid reactor as the Scathon’s tip and core began to shine. Seunna spirits arose once more, spiraling above in a magnificent fashion. Their eerie cries let out as usual, dissipating their white aura to reveal a disclosure of a short inverted staircase leading to a glass door adjacent of it’s placement. The remaining aura shun with Kanen’s amazed expression. It’s glow lighting up hope in a packed spot of withheld retribution ephemerally caste aside.
“This is it! Fascinating! One of these has has to lead to the rationem” said Kanen as he shrugged off all that around him to make his way down the stair casing. Taking careful steps, the door placed at the bottom opened as if sensing his presence. Welcoming it’s gesture without hesitation, Kanen walked inside now fixating a clearer picture of how the transportation operated. Confined between thick layers were seunna spirits dancing within, as he rotated around himself Kanen noticed the tube shaped figure he rested in.
“A machine made purely from seunna?! Is there anything the Velatum can’t do?!” Kanen said to himself, puzzled to be putting effort into finding it’s controls, he observed his surroundings to spot his reflection in the transparency of its exterior.
“You would think it would not be functional at it’s state but…” Kanen scanned the interior attentively, examining its flooring which still consisted of the patterned emblem from before, then transitioned his eyes around to the front as a dim glow shined it’s ray on his face. Suddenly, vibrations buzzed in correspondence to his deep stare in line with his focal point directed at the seunna spirit’s moving freely within the glass stained walls. His eyes flashed brightly a chromatically in a split second the absent color filled his irises, crawling veins could be seen around his eyelids and outer space around them. Kanen gasped.
“The power of seunna’s energy has kept it running for so long, incredible” he said, as his vision made out scribbles near the side of the opening. As they grew with intent, so had the illegibility clearing itself. Kanen spotted sets of numbers vertically appearing one after the other. Seemingly puzzling at first he came to the realization of what he was seeing, it clicked.
“Imperium digit pairs, these are codes” said Kanen
“Hmm...1A-1G, 2A-2G,3A-3G, 4A-4G,5A-5G and lastly 6A-6G. These are all 35 floors in these prisons of Scathatchen, and I suppose that would mean that this transportation elevator? Reiji called it, has access to them all” Kanen peered underneath the pairing numbers. He spotted the word HOME stretched out below consecutively.
“HOME. That has to be it” he saw the letters spread distant between one another.
“DOMUS means home, I remember Reiji telling me once” he said.
Kanen looked downwards contemplating his next move.
“DOMUS is so close, but I cannot. I just can’t come to leave yet” he said to himself.
“I could not live with myself knowing the natives need me, no, unacceptable” he said shaking his head, lifting it confidentially and reaching his stained hands towards the 6 category. One single touch picked up on his sensitivity, splitting into smaller brackets as seunna ripples spread outwards. Earnest as can be, he slid his finger across “6B” among the lowest of floors, he presumed.
“Rationem, that is where the Rationem chamber must be. Yes, soon I will end this” Kanen said.
The nonexistent engines revved up ferociously, seunna hissed it’s usual tone as the spirit face’s within widened their mouths to signify action. A mystical field projected itself on the outside, as it’s ray’s shined on all corners inside. It shook moderately, Kanen leaned against the back as a result. White aura traveled across the currents swiftly , it began to move. It lowered at reasonable rate, as Kanen stood holding onto the metal bar circulating the space he stood in. As energetic sparks danced from his view, the young native stood firmly with eyes of resolve. He fixed his comfortability on his handling of the scathon, looking ahead while descending deeper into the depths.
“No turning back for me, I will make you proud father” Kanen said, as he stood waiting to reach his destination.
OLDER KANEN: I was so certain that when it came to it, I’d be able to prove our worth. I was ill advised to steer away from my supposed calling by so many, taught to hate myself to death by strangers who knew nothing of who I really was. I always thought “If you don’t look like me” you were better off living a nicer life even in a world like Xenysis. If that misguidance wasn’t so heavily ingrained inside my morales, I’d probably be bunched in with the rest of these people, colonized in a species where you couldn’t tell anyone apart from one another. Dare I say that I was thankful for my subjugated background for raising me with such fiery ambitions? Would that seem disrespectful to my ancestors, father? As the elevated platform came to a stop, and as I stared undauntedly into the face of pitch gloom , I cared not of what I’d encounter but what awaited my purpose. Seunna cleared the opening, creaking against the metal bridging into a room with rested tubes on the sides and top. I remember the rush of adrenaline swelling up my bloodstream, as I heard pained bellowing from around me. Still keeping calm, I walked further into the unknown ready for what’s to come, so I thought…
As the young native made his way across the bridgeway, checking his environment as to not disturbed his inner vigilance, he kept on, scathon half cocked in hand. After passing some complexly constructed tubes filled with specimens he’d rather not be concerned with, his wonder navigated him closer.
“These must have been seunna’s doing!? They look too far gone to tell if they were human or not?!” Kanen said.
“Pure seunna is not capable of such a thing, I believe” Kanen said answering himself, as he took a few peeps at the disembodied samples to the sides of him. He turned away as to not be distracted and pressed on.
Eye’s reacting with nearby seunna, glowing as they naturally would. It was then where he reached a gap and noticed a second half to the floor he found himself on. Before recklessly plummeting at high speeds he jumped across, faint sobs were brought to his attention the farther he ventured.
“Hm?” said Kanen, it struck like lightning when he witnessed a shaded being speed on the bottom floor at terrifying speeds unlike anything he had ever seen, before reacting he veiled his presence with bars close by. Loud clattering hit in repetition, one step after the other. Gasping from behind alarmed his senses, followers were absent puzzling Kanen as his reflexes drew themselves with his scathon gripped after peering behind.
“Someone must have seen me from below” he whispered
“Now’s my chance” said Kanen, readying himself for a diving pounce maneuver.
Seunna hissed in his eardrums, as his eyes glowed and it became clear
The shaded figure tackled with dangerously brutal speeds, it’s face shrouded by spirits of seunna resembling a human but appallingly carrying features strongly more of a nightmarish creature, almost unreal. Only it was.
“A sinner, Reiji told me about those once” Kanen told himself keeping his tone muted.
“AHH!” A voice screamed out in terror, a soft feminine one.
It was there he recognized the source of presence he sensed before, there below sat a young girl, struggling to catch her breath. From the looks of his perception the real threat was non humanistic and so, that encouraged the young native with all that he needed to strike.
“A prisoner!? Hm, and young as me at that. That’s far past my indication, here goes nothing” Kanen told himself, leering down in position. He ejected his scathon from his withdrawal, while watching the beast take slashes at the girl as she resisted. If the smell of blood was any reconciliation it’s damage would return ten fold when fueled by Kanen’s motives, he revved his engines.
“No, please stop!” she said holding back the being’s clawed arm with her hands, as it bled suddenly.
“S-S-Seunna!” it’s raspy, ominous voice said gnawing in closer, sensing the frozen fear in her eyes. Enlarging its pupils, sickeningly drooling the ghostly essence deep from the open wounds gashed in flesh. Hot decaying breath shivering the girl’s spine as she shook.
An uttered squeal escaped her mouth, too stricken to speak.
A scratching screech slipped against the material Kanen once stood on, in a split second with a shade of smoke vanishing behind.
Startled the girl’s quick instincts set her back as she saw his bounding form dive down with unrelenting force. Kanen’s scathon tipping the edge to meet it’s aim, soaring downwards riding the bolt of blitz with hands pressing ahold to tear through.
“I’m sure my seunna taste’s better wouldn’t you agree!!? Cause my blood is raging right now!” he said lunging down onto the creature, piercing into it’s splenius with a hard jab impairing it’s neckbone. It’s decayed blood spurting out in thick streams, as its bellow echoed in thousands of individual voices. It’s tender legs, falling to their knees along with the rest of it’s body collapsing with the weight of Kanen’s impact and bearing weight latching on the creature’s busted back, causing a crushing thump to hit the cold flooring. Seunna circled it’s fallen host , echoing their sounds reverberating off of the walls surfaces deeper into the hallway.
