The two came to a halt once reaching the centerpiece.
“All too familiar” Kanen spoke out.
“And very soon, all in the past” Reiji added.
Reiji took a step back and headed towards the door, fastening it’s lock to secure the two in their privacy.
“So what’s this about Reiji? How do you plan for us to escape exactly?” Kanen asked.
With an exhale clearing his thoughts, Reiji started his way back towards his young native friend. He scanned the room on all sides to ensure eavesdropping was out of any speculation. When ready he spoke, calmly.
“Have I ever informed you about the haven we as Velatants call home?” Reiji asked.
“Um, I’m sure you have once or twice but it must have been some time ago, why?” Kanen replied with a question rivaling his.
“It is known as DOMUS or casually thought of as home, thus why everyone refers to it as such. It’s a place where all fears subside before they can even begin to reach the thought of anxiety. A place regardless of ethnicity, race, or background anyone willing to make a change for the better can reside there. Those who dream of revolution can put their minds to the test to achieve that very goal. Our home, Domus, is much closer than you may realize Kanen” he responded.
“Much closer? As of now?” Kanen questioned.
“That’s right , right where we are standing just approximately 50 feet under lies that treasured place. Underneath the oval shaped tile you now stand under is the key to our escape” Reiji answered.
“As Velatants our natural bodies have adapted to it’s entrance, giving us exclusive access to DOMUS that Imperium forces would have sworn lied elsewhere”
“So this Dom, err, Domus?” Kanen replied..
“Just call it home, your true home, irrelevant of this cage you’ve grown in lies beneath you” Reiji answered.
“My job as stated before is to make sure you are evacuated safely in order to rendezvous with Madame Delphina deeper into it’s interior. It is a place completely unattached from the world above. Heh, as it should be until we reclaim this planet as planned” He followed up.
“Madame Delphina. The leader of the Velatum, lover to my father. How could I forget?” Kanen added.
“She will be waiting for me below?” he asked.
“Precisely, she tends to appear just at the right time. That woman is equal to something out of this world, truly a marvel” he added.
“Enough of the needless infatuation, haha, I’m embarrassing myself” Reiji added.
“I see, she must be quite the person” Kanen responded.
“But why me? Why go through so much trouble for my life? You’ve told me before about the operation but how can I contribute to that?” Kanen asked, his final call out of desperation led to his voice cracking at the end of his speech.
“For a second, I thought you’d never ask” Reiji followed up.
“As you can already tell seunna’s role to aid us will cause its downfall. You my boy, have something special. A curse passed on by your dearest father Noah. It still remains a mystery to this day, but until we can properly evaluate its prowess it’ll remain our number one advantage in turning the tide against the Imperium. You have special seunna that has been running it’s course through your very own veins since birth” Reiji answered.
“It’s a curse? But wouldn’t that give me more problems than advantages?” Kanen asked.
“I am confused, what seems to be so bad about it?” he continued.
“That depends on you, what you make it to be. The details are scarce but as long as you’re level headed like I know you are, all it will be is power” Reiji answered.
“Madame Delphina plans to use your Vitalysis curse as a viable resource to replace seunna, bringing back a more natural flow to Xenysis much like Earth was. How she intends to do that is beyond even my comprehension. I’m sure this all sounds foreign to you at the moment but your focus at this point along with mine should be escape” He added.
Kanen listened closely as Reiji spoke, trying to clarify his motives in a hazy glimpse of being apart of a grand scheme.
“If we accomplish this task you’ll be on your way to wiping seunna clean from Xenysis, that way no person should have to suffer including the native race especially Kanen, your people. I know it’s hard to picture a brighter future as we stand now but you have to believe in yourself. That is what’s most important” Reiji assured him
“I see” Kanen said
“So, what’s the plan?”
Reiji smiled, relieved of Kanen’s guilty phase.
“That’s my boy, now listen carefully. As I’ve said before, the entrance to home is below the circular emblem you stand on now. I will set a scene that at a moments notice will be portrayed as your ordinary extraction. As you’re sadly used to already, these chains surrounding will expose your body with both arms lifted on each side. While the Imperium guards remain distracted by their search for the other Velatant, I will join them. If I don’t return before an average of 30 minutes, I want you to break free on your own. I’ve only applied the chains to look as if they’ve been fastened but in reality they are easily detached with your manual force.
“Other Velatant? You’re going to join their search and leave me here?” Kanen asked.
“I have no choice on the matter I’m afraid, but I wouldn’t be slipping away so easily if I hadn’t known you were safe” Reiji answered.
“These chains will give off the impression that you are simply waiting for your daily seunna extraction for the Imperium. If I don’t return to guide you within that time period I want you to use this” Reiji stated, reaching in his pocket to reveal a silver tube with a hard wrapping showing three glowing rectangle shapes on it’s exterior.
He slid his finger down the pattern as it flashed flickering small seunna spirits into a small pocket of air. A spear and staff hybrid weapon emerged from it’s surface, It’s pointed edge appearing sharp enough to carve through the smallest of particles. A downward shape curved to the side beneath. A latch near its main portion and a longer more defined part nearing its bottom. Three bands in that same place assorting the peculiar model like accessories .
“This is known as a Scathon, your father used it on his travels I was told by Madame Delphina. It is infused with the purest seunna to ever infest this planet, hmph how ironic” Reiji informed
“One jab into the emblems surface, and an elevator leading to the exit should reveal. Are you following so far or do I need to repeat myself?”
Kanen shook his head.
“So this Scath thing works like a key?” Kanen asked
“And even more amazing is the fact that it was my father's. It feels like the closest I’ll ever be to him”
“That Scathon has surpassed the test of time in it’s own right, by you wielding it you’re carrying a piece of your father's legacy in your very own hands. Once we overcome this hurdle you’re on your way to becoming the rightful leader of the Defiance, a unit composed of three others like yourself tasked with ending seunna’s vile reign” said Reiji
“You’ve told me. I will try my best, that is all I can promise” Kanen replied
“That’s all it takes” Reiji commented.
“The others like me, do they too share the same dream in a better Xenysis?” Kanen asked
“More or less” said Reiji, grinning. “Either way , I’m sure they’ll have their own personal reasons” Reiji responded.
“That’s good to know” said Kanen.
Just then, a buzzing sound emitted from a slot on Reiji’s light armor. It’s ring repeated in the same tone for a minute or two.
“That’s cue part two” said Reiji, as he proceeded to fasten the chains onto Kanen’s arms as planned
“Are you ready?” he said to Kanen
“Born ready” Kanen replied, kneeling down on the patterned emblem below, as his arms were lifted.
Reiji lowered himself, sliding the tube containing the scathon weapon on the back of his torn pants, clipping it with ease.
He stood back up.
“I will call out to you from the speaker installed within the scathon, sense it is enhanced by seunna only those falling into it’s influence will be able to use it to communicate. Therefore, Imperium guards won’t be able to hear it’s sounds” Reiji informed him.
“Are you sure? Don’t they use seunna?” Kanen asked.
“Yes, but it isn’t the kind we use. I’ll explain at a later time” Reiji answered
Faint voices were heard calling outside of the door concealing the two’s seclusion.
“They’ve gone far enough, I believe this is where we part ways my friend” said Reiji, standing up firmly.
“Now that I’ve passed the Scathon to you, Delphina can track your location as planned”
Kanen looked back up at Reiji.
“One last thing, that velatant you spoke of, what is her name ? I’m just curious so I know when I meet her” Kanen asked
“Oh, you’ll meet her soon enough” said Reiji.
“O-Ok. Don’t forget about me, I’ll see you soon Reiji, watch yourself” Kanen replied
“Wouldn’t dream of it” said Reiji as he transitioned his attention back towards the door, the voices grew in volume.
“But let’s make sure you don’t forget this” he said stopping as he placed his hand on the door.
“What’s that?” Kanen asked
“You were born to defy expectations Kanen, not to simply meet them” Reiji commented as he started his way towards the door.
“Never forget that” he said. “We’ll meet again soon”
As the young native watched his only friend vanish in a matter of seconds, he contemplated the act thoroughly as to concentrate his mind of what lied ahead. Atmospheric grief hushed as he lied his heart to rest, unraveling his emotional state in the process. In his typical posture , he stared down blankly. His solid black hair shrouding his indecisiveness. The thinning time that passed was a choker more draining than all else somatic to himself that afflicted in the past. With sharp eyes revolving around the room, Kanen scrutinized the condition regarding the skeletal bones propping themselves like decoration for the grim environment. It was then, in that instance, flashing strides of bygone recollections hindered his thoughts to a complete stop. It came rushing back all of a sudden, shuttering every motion like an unexpected cramp to his senses.
Gripping the chains, shaking to the very core.
“I’ll defy your expectations alright, like you’ve never seen before” he said gritting his teeth, clamming his eyelids.
“Just you wait, just you wait” he said whispering.
KANEN: Minutia challenged my memories, and my memories never hesitated fighting back. That was the breaking point. I caused my own suffering by pushing a selfish act I felt was priority. Though in that moment, nothing felt more raw. I thirsted for change in desperation to quench my undying impulses. What I hadn’t know was that as I swam towards them, I was also drowning helplessly in my own self pity.
KANEN: It started the day I was left in Scathatchen as a kid, barely able to stand on my own. You’d think ten years would be enough time to forget a bad memory, but I still see it clear as day. I feel myself there, every time I’m rejected to act on my own. I can feel screams trembling my body and shattering my eardrums, you tell me how someone can ignore such a thing? Not this native, and not ever again.
In Kanen’s far off memory, a woman donning a black gown was shown. She dawdled down the hallway solemnly, her expression hidden by shades of darkness. Her lips crisp, unfitting to the gloomy background she graced. Her long tangled hair wrapped around her body, without a worldly regard. Skin being viable enough to be swept away with a single flick of a finger, once a novelty stored in it’s shell for far too long. She wasn’t entirely alone in her solidarity. A young native toddler little above his infant years waddled by her side, his palm fitting in place in her shaking crevice as a small blanket just enough to keep her cold numbness warm above it’s freezing Fahrenheit. Imperium guards surrounded the two watching every move they made, listening into every breath to make sure their state was healthy enough for the event ahead.
The two approached immense light fearing more than welcome.
A mellifluous voice overlapping a raspy tone slithered it’s way along the ray’s discontinuing any peace the woman especially had prayed for.
“Oh how I’ve longed for this day” the voice echoed down the corridor.
A sharp grin formed in the remaining dark, a mockery of the human race in it’s natural form.
The mother and son continued on.
Glimmering against the setting were glasses, revealing eyes similar to that of a serpent. Iris sickening with a strange yellow. An abnormality floating among all of the universe, to all.
The man sat in a chair informally, legs on both side with the seat turned the opposite way. His arms folded atop the rail. A grin wide enough to debunk the fact of muscles exercised more than frowns.
The mother and son stood facing him, with her mane still hiding her expression. She began to shook.
“What ever is the matter this time? Are you cold?” the man asked.
No reply spoken from the woman
“Ah, what a downer you are. Here I am thinking we could have a little fun before this all goes down, downhill for you that is maybe. Your boy, what are his thoughts, I wonder?” the man reached his hand to caress the boy's hair but was quickly swatted away by the mother.
“Ah, now that’s just rude” the man said reverting his hand back to himself.
“Monarch Omnium, I intend not to disturb but wanted to remind you we’ve just received word that Noah has been constrained as you requested” a guard spoke behind the two standing.
The mother gasped.
“Yes that was quite disturbing, but just in time” Omnium clapped his hands together.
“We’ll have our time alone soon love, just be patient” he said still retaining his menacing grin. He snapped , causing the guards to interfere with the family’s bond. They forcefully grabbed onto the woman inappropriately manhandling her as her grip slid off of her young son’s tiny palm.
The two dragged her back into the dark, clenching each arm struggling to keep control of her outrageous behavior.
“Kensei! Kensei! I’ll come back for you! Ya hear!?” she yelled.
“I’ll kill you with my bare hands, rip you to shreds and bring you to your knees for once. I will force you to beg for death! You sick son of a bitch!” she yelled, snapping while rearing her attitudes ugly head she had conserved for the sheer moment.
“Oh yeah!? Quite similar to how you should be begging for your son?” Kensei asked
“Mild threats aren’t the best way to persuade a person to get what you want, ya know” he added.
Her ferocious pitch rupturing the message of her words.
“Kanen, my dear. Daddy’s coming, trust in him, please” she said with a hoarse tone, as tears tumbled down her dry cheeks.
OLDER KANEN: I still hear her weeping all throughout the night. My eyes stung the longer I stared, but in a sense watching her effortlessly sob was rain showering in a desolate desert in my heart. My ambitions were not lit, but cleansed and I saw clearly for the first time what this world had to offer for me.
The mother’s screams reverberated off of solid corners, as her untamed bellowing ached with each piercing cry. In perception of her captors another species came closer to extinction.
