I groaned as I heard the quiet beeping and thrumming of machines. I looked around my surroundings, a stark white room, with two pale gray chairs, Ash sleeping in one of the chairs, and a large bay window that overlooked a busy street. My eyes snapped back to where Ash was sleeping, he looked peaceful and handsome. There were still traces of bruises on his arm and peeking out from under his shirt. He was dressed in a black shirt, light grey hoodie, black jeans, and dark grey work boots. His skin was now alabaster instead of the pale reddish blue.
“My angel?” he grumbled tiredly as his eyes opened a crack only to shut instantly from the pastel hues flooding the room. “You're awake now?”
“I just woke up actually,” I mumbled tiredly. “I wasn’t sure if I should have woken you up or not, so I just left you alone to rest some more.” I tiredly stretched my arms only to feel a piercing pain shoot through my arm as various different tubes and wires ripped out of my arm sharply. I hissed in pain as they fell onto the floor and beside me. Ash rushed to my side now fully awake as I crumpled into a ball in agony and pain. He smashed a square button that emitted a loud shrieking sound. A lady in pastel yellow scrubs came sprinting into the room as a tall male in a white jacket and blue scrubs followed behind her.
When they saw me crumpled in a ball with blood trailing down my arm they instantly grabbed gauze and various other things I couldn’t identify.
“Miss,” the lady in purple started, shining a bright light into my eyes making me squint and block my eyes with my good arm. “Can you tell me your name and age?”
“Wha-” I started before feeling the searing pain in my back again making me screech and thrash wildly. I watched helplessly as Ash was removed from the room by the guy in the white jacket. “A-Ash, h-help m-me p-p-please!”
“Miss?” The lady asked again, a look of worry crossed her face. “Can you please answer my question?”
“M-My name i-is, D-D-Dawn M-M-Morningstar, I-I’m t-twenty s-seven years old. I-I want to s-see Ash, w-w-we’re en-engaged. Please, just l-let me see him.” I whimpered out as the pain continued to set my nerves on fire.
“Okay Dawn, we have to reattach the tubes and wires to your arm first so the pain stops.” the nurse spoke softly, gently resting her hand on my one shoulder as she inserted a long metal tube into my arm along with various wires. “Okay, now, Dawn, I have a question for you. I want you to tell me what happened before you came here. Do you think you can do that?”
I shook my head as I felt my body stiffen with a sudden burst of something cool, almost like water but it felt like it was soaking me from the inside out.
“Did your fiancé do this to you?” She asked as I shook my head rapidly. “Who did this to you?”
“I don’t know,” I panted, looking towards the large window as I felt my body convulse involuntarily as the pain faded and something else took over. “Where am I? I know I’m in a hospital but I’m not sure where.”
“You’re in Dallas, Texas, Dawn.” the nurse replied softly. “You’ve been here for about three days.”
“What do you mean?” I mumbled, feeling exhaustion take over. “I woke up yesterday to being dragged out of bed and away from my fiancé with brute force.”
“Do you know who it was?” She continued to ask.
“No,” I replied somberly. “I never saw him before.” I felt tears stream down my face while I felt the tiredness take over as I started to feel heavier as my eyes slowly shut. I let the darkness take over my consciousness again.
