The air was musty and damp and smelled of a sickly sweet smell of aftershave and cologne. I coughed harshly as I stood up rapidly. Everything around me spun as silver and black stars swam through my vision. I staggered back to where I woke up, a large mattress covered in black and gold sheets. I looked around the dull lighting in the room as I continued to see black and silver stars float through my sight. Who knew angels could get light headed? I thought to myself. As I glanced around the room I recognized a very familiar looking demon sleeping in a small, cramped wingback chair. I stared at his sleeping figure, he wasn’t wearing a shirt and had dark marks lacing his arms and black and blue bruises. The bruises were forming on his skin around his chest, jawline, and eyes. ‘I hope he didn’t get beaten up because of me…’ I thought to myself, oblivious to the fact that my demon was staring at me intensely.
“Well, I didn’t expect my little angel to be staring at me while I was sleeping.” He spoke quietly, his voice rough and deep sounding with sleep. I felt heat rise to my cheeks as he got up and stretched his arms out. I glanced away, the heat in my cheeks not going away. “What’s wrong angel?”
“N-Nothing,” I stuttered, continuing to look away from him. ”I’m just wondering why you were sleeping on the chair instead of the bed with me like old times.”
“I was sleeping in the chair because I didn’t want to wake you up considering you blacked out on me.” He replied, looking embarrassed. “Also, I changed your clothes to one of my old Breaking Benjamin band shirts and black and red plaid pajama pants. Your dress is hanging up in the closet in case you wanted to put it on.” I felt the heat intensify as he spoke and gestured towards the closet on the opposite side of the room. I noticed that the door knobs were plated brass and shaped like skulls, I inwardly cringed at the sight. I wonder who picked the doorknobs in here and why? I thought to myself. I gingerly stood up and walked towards the closet.
“Who brought me here?” I weakly questioned as I opened the closet doors looking for my white dress. Which I found moments later with green, red, and brown stains. I rolled my eyes tiredly. “Also, what happened to my dress? Why is it stained and ruined?”
Ash chuckled quietly while rubbing the back of his neck, “Well, I brought you here but you see…” he began avoiding eye contact. “When the head angel bastard saw me he pulled out what looked like a knife, but the blade was different, it’s hard to explain. But he threw the knife right when you got close to me. I didn’t know what to do after you collapsed but I knew that we both had to get out of there.”
I felt tears stinging my eyes as I realized what happened and why I woke up seeing stars. I got my angel wings removed by force. I felt the tears run down my pale cheeks and two slim arms wrap around me bringing me closer. I silently cried as Ash rubbed over the two wounds on my back. I felt the searing pain in my lower back again as I began to see the silver and black stars again.
I jolted awake feeling something tighten around my wrist and jerking me upright. When I realized who it was I screamed as loud as I could. It was the head angel, nobody ever saw or heard from him considering he was the main person in charge of the new angels. I started to kick, punch, and scratch my way out of his grip as he dragged me away from the sleeping figure next to me, Ash, and onto the carpeted flooring
“Ash,” I bellowed. I continued to fight my way out of the head angels grip, “help me!” Ash awoke panic and fear written all over his elegant face. My heart squeezed in pain as he rushed towards the head angel, a weird looking sword in hand.
“Let her go,” he started wielding the sword above his head. “Now.”
The head angel chuckled darkly, “No, I have to bring this slut back to heaven even though she doesn’t deserve it.” He spat continuing to pull me towards the bedroom door, ignoring me slashing at his hands and arms with my nails. I grabbed one of Ash’s demon blades from the nearby chest of drawers. The head angel hissed in pain as I struck the blade deep into his elbow. “Why you little bitch!” Pain blossomed on my cheek as he smacked me across the face falling back onto the ground.
As the head angel was distracted Ash slashed his sword across the head angels back, leaving a gaping wound that was oozing with blood and other fluids. As I saw the blood dripping off of the sword I saw the world sway as I tried to stand feebly. Losing balance, I fell back onto the floor. Ash came rushing over, shoving the sword into the head angels skull with a sickening crack as I felt my arm and head connect with the cool carpeted flooring. Turning my vision black as Ash crouched down in front of me.
