-1 Year Before Fall goes into a Coma-
*Kylar's POV*
Fallen Amour. A twenty-year-old girl in her second year of college. My heart, and my life; though she didn’t know it. I’ve been her guardian angel since I was fifteen and she was twelve. I knew all her past lovers and heartbreaks, her exciting moments in life, and the problematic secrets she holds.
I even got the job at this cafe because it was the one she went to regularly. My work schedule aligned with when she’d come here to read and sip on whatever her drink of choice was at the time, which changed every so often as she grew older. Occasionally she’d leave early, but since I’m her guardian I know she’s safe even when she isn’t around. I could never honestly express my love for her though...because our love would be forbidden in Haven. It has been for centuries. Look, but never make contact, the number one rule of Guardian Angels.
“Here’s your iced caramel macchiato, miss.” Walking up to her table, Fall folded her book closed and grabbed the drink from me with a smile. My heart started to race and beat loudly as our eyes connected, and her hand briefly touched mine.
“Thank you!” She gleefully exclaimed, taking a sip before picking her book back up with her free hand. I started to walk away, but a feeling overtook me. I turned back around and faced Fallen. She looked up at me with wonder in her eyes.
“Would you…” The feeling of defying the Haven seemed to vanish for a moment… “Would you like to try our free donut samples?” I caved. I couldn’t do it. No matter how much I loved her, I couldn’t go against my family.
“No, thank you!” She sweetly declined, and I nodded before going back to my workstation. Sighing, I started to wipe the counter off while looking at her. The sunlight poured perfectly down on her brown, silky hair and smooth, porcelain skin. Even her gentle green eyes shined beautifully. Shaking my head, I tried to focus on my work and disappeared back behind the counter to organize the coffee beans.
“Hey, Kylar..” A voice behind me caused me to jump slightly. Turning around, it was Fallen. I was surprised she even knew my name...wait...I wear a name tag. Of course, she would know. She had a shy smile across her dainty face as I approached her, each step causing my heart to race faster. My shift was almost over and usually, she left early on Tuesdays. Why was she still here?
“What can I get you, miss?” The words left my mouth as sweetly as they ever had in my life. She somehow managed to twiddled her fingers, regardless that she was holding her book and coffee cup.
“I know your shift is almost over so I was wondering if you’d want to get a bite with me afterward. I heard there is this new restaurant in town..” Her words shocked me. Is this a dream. Pinching my leg, out of her view, which made me wince ever so slightly. Nope, not a dream. It didn’t matter if our love was forbidden, I’ll protect her from it. Maybe...just maybe, my family would understand.
“Of course!” It came out so quickly, Fall laughed. Even her laugh was gorgeous; smooth and soft. What shocked me even more, was that she knew my shift, which means I wasn’t just paying attention to her, she was always paying attention to me as well.
“I’ll wait outside since you only have a few minutes left.” She smiled at me and then I watched her walk out the cafe door and sit on the bench outside. My heart wouldn’t stop racing. I can’t believe this is happening. These next few minutes were going to feel like hours, but I couldn’t even distract myself from this. How could I?
“Ready?” Walking out of the cafe, Fall stood up as I approached her. Her outfit was even perfect for the occasion. Did she plan this? It was a cute little yellow sundress that was sleeveless, and made a ‘V’ in the back, exposing the top of her back, and she wore yellow pumps that strapped at her ankles. My outfit was just a plain black V-neck shirt, with ripped black jeans and a black belt, with black combat boots. I was underdressed, but Fall didn’t seem to mind. She happily linked arms with me, causing my heart to beat loudly.
“Ready whenever you are.” She smiled up at me, and we began to walk to the other side of town. We could’ve driven, but just enjoying each other's company seemed more fitting for us.
This was our beginning, and we didn’t realize what was to come. I didn’t understand what it meant for us, as a couple… or as individuals.
