I love you, sulked the dragon, why won’t you let me try?
You’re a dragon, said the little girl. It would never work.
At that he stretched his leathery wings, soared into the sky,
And dove into a black pit full of nameless, filthy murk.
Great lidded eyes blinked up at her, long lashes dripping mud,
I hate you, came the plaintive voice. Just leave me here to rot.
She shrugged, turned to walk away; the dragon tasted blood,
R-R-RAUGH! he shrieked, burst up and out--ate her on the spot!
Bloodlust thus slaked, he licked his lips, inclined his golden head,
Oops, cried he. What have I done--I’ve slain my one true love!
Large tears splashed down along his scales, mourning for the dead,
He spent an aeon moping then, and cursed all gods above.
