Zed angrily pulled on his clothing after getting a letter. A LETTER. He wondered why Nkauj Ntuab couldn’t simply bring his phone or have sent it in place of the letter. He wanted his phone. He needed it. It was a high class phone from Elirius, the realm of angels. So he grudgingly slipped on his shoes and ventured to the meeting place.
As he huffed through the streets, he finally arrived at XX station. Unbeknownst of him, 15 feet ahead of him stood the last person he wanted to see.
Nestrio stood oblivious to his surroundings as he waited.
Zed took a deep breath and marched over, “Where’s Nkauj Ntuab?” Nestrio was surprised to see him there and merely shrugged. “Ugh...”
“Zed. I wanted to apologize for the other day.” Nestrio stated quickly without making eye contact. From Zed’s point of view, he looked nervous and unsure.
Looking the demon up and down, he didn’t believe the apology at all, but for the sake of appearances he accepted it. “Whatever.” Nestrio looked relieved and smiled a bit. Zed felt like he was plotting against him.
It wasn’t long before Nkauj Ntuab’s voice could be heard as she rushed over to apologize, while dragging a young man along. Nestrio recognized him as the son of the people who employed him. He believed his name was Alvis. “Oh, hello Nestrio. You’re here as well?”
Zed glanced at the young man who the chirpy voice, unfitting voice was coming from. He was a Satyr, but more like his mother in which he had horns and ears of a goat. He also seemed to have a tail like his father.
“Yes, I’ve never been to an amusement park. We don’t have them in Drachim.” Nestrio answered honestly.
“What’s an amusement park?” Zed asked before remembering his phone. “Can I have my phone back!?”
Nkauj Ntuab handed the phone back to him while explaining, “It’s a place where we midlanders go to have fun! Alright, the train’s here! Let’s go friends!” She hooked arms with a Zed that wanted to bolt, and dragged him into the train car.
An hour later, they arrived at the park. Nestrio and Zed looked over the gates of the park in amazement. They wondered what the large colorful contraptions were for. Nestrio heard screaming as Nkauj Ntuab received their tickets and wondered.
They followed Nkauj Ntuab onto the grounds; their first stop was the “ Maga-raging devil! One of my favorites! All of ya’ll are going to love it so much!!!!” whooped Nkauj.
“ That’s not how a devil looks.”
“ You would know…” retorted Zed as he glanced at the two men beside him.
“ You’re right, I would know, I have two as pets.”nonchalantly answered the Nestrio.
Zed was flabbergasted at the notion of a ‘devil’ as a pet, and couldn’t find the need to poke at the demon. He had to process the information that was given, surely the demon was lying. So Zed stood at the demon’s side as he merrily chatted to the Satyr; for some reason he felt irked. Maybe it’s the environment….yea, must be, it’s far too cramped for the angel to stay in.
Nkauj Ntuab on the other hand felt her ‘ love antenna’ flare. Sniffing the air she turned behind her and what she saw was eye opening. She felt her lips widen as Zed looked off the ramp as he stood crossed armed; whilst Nestrio’s tall figure stood by the brooding angel, talking animatedly with Alvis. With a kick in her step, sporting a impish grin, she turned around and began plotting. It was surely meant to be.
When they finally arrived at the front of the line. Nestrio was the first to take a seat. Alvis had planned to join him, but was grabbed by Nkauj Ntuab and forced to sit with her. Zed took the remaining seat next to Nestrio and they all strapped in. Zed looked behind him and saw Alvis and Nkauj Ntuab sitting a few rows behind and he unconsciously released a breath of relief. The two otherworlders, weren’t sure what they were to expect. They sat in the very first car and Nestrio could feel his blood pumping with every click.
As the carts painly made its way up the slope; with every click Zed felt anticipation for what sight would be held upon the top of the slope. Alas, at the very top, Zed watched the amusement park from the peak; he felt as if he was merely standing on top of a metal hill. Watching the hundreds of Midlanders move about the park in mindless rivers of bodies--until the drop came and he felt his body clench up.
It wasn’t until the second dip that Zed realized that it wasn’t his body that clenched up, but more so the long limbs that circled his body. He felt the crushing grip of the demon, and heard him shout in fright as they plummeted. The contraption restrained them, and the demon could only think of escaping. With the sudden drop, he felt the instinct to open his wings, to catch himself from hitting the pavement, but he was trapped!
Nestrio was desperately clinging to the angel beside him with only a fraction of his strength in hopes that he could save them. However, they were caught, and shot back into the sky, only to repeat that horror, over and over.
What seemed endless was only for a few short minutes, but Nestrio had decided, he hated roller coasters. The carts came to a stop at the terminal but his eyes were still clenched in fear.
The angel’s face burned with a blush at the proximity. The demon was close, closer than he’d ever allowed anyone to get. All in all, it was horribly uncomfortable.
When they were released from their seats, Zed watched as Nestrio rushed to a trash bin and began to vomit. His long hair was everywhere, and Zed inattentively pulled it back for him. He waited while Nestrio emptied his stomach. He expected it would have been him terrified and vomiting; but Nestrio’s panic helped bring him out of his stupor. He heard the demon groan, and hesitantly patted the demon on the back, unused to the contact of others.
After the roller coaster incident, it was decided that the otherworlders would not be riding any more roller coasters. This was the point where the group separated into two. Nkauj Ntuab brought them to the gaming area of the park where they could play arcade games and fair games for prizes, before running off with a protesting Alvis.
They both watched the two head towards the death traps that Midlanders thought were fun. Shivering at the memory of the torture, they silently agreed to go inside the arcade.
The colorful lights danced in their eyes, as they observed the many games. It was then that Nestrio spotted a dreconik plushie sitting in a game. With sparkling eyes he made a beeline towards the machine. The plushie was quite large, it was about twice the size of Zarkar and Nestrio felt as though he couldn’t leave without it.
Zed watch curiously as Nestrio stared at the plushie. He’d seen this type of game before and knew there was a trick to it. He, however, stood back as Nestrio began his quest.
4 hours later, Nestrio was out of pocket money and ready to break into the machine. Zed decided that he’d watched the demon suffer enough and stood at the ready. Nestrio huffed in annoyance, but it only took one quarter for Zed to win the plushie. Nestrio was shocked. Zed retrieved the plushie and was handing it to him without eye contact. “You’re giving it to me…?” Nestrio asked quietly.
“Yeah. You wanted it, right?” Zed responded, looking of into the distance.
“But you won it…” Nestrio replied, he didn’t think it would be fair for him to take it when it wasn’t him who beat the game.
“Do you want it?” Zed asked, finally looking at the tense demon.
Nestrio nodded slowly, and found himself in possession of the cute plushie. “...thank you…”
Zed watched as Nestrio stared at the plushie with a gentle look, and felt his heart skip a beat. He rubbed at the place where his heart was curiously, but then felt his stomach flutter when Nestrio looked at him and smiled gratefully. “N-no pro-...” Zed found himself cut off.
“Hey, there you both are! We were wondering if you were ready to leave yet?” yelled Alvis from a distance.
Zed watched Nestrio’s eyes light up at the sight of Alvis, and rushed over with his plushie and began speaking quickly with him. He didn’t realize it but he felt disappointed.
Clearing his thoughts, he made his way to Nkauj Ntuab. He was ready for the confusing day to be over.
